“ONWARDS AND UPWARDS”.
For a long time, I thought that was going to be the name of my second album. ONWARDS AND UPWARDS. But, it ended up being the name of three tracks and a big part of the spirit of a record now called DIA.
Today, I get to share with you the first of those three songs: UPWARDS. I played so many different versions of this live, the chorus always stayed the same, the core stayed the same, but the lyrics, the arrangements, its shape kept changing as I kept playing it live, until I finally found it, I recorded it, and here it is. I truly enjoy playing this live, singing it, dancing to it, it was a joy to make, it just flowed out of me, it helped me finish the record cause no matter how hard other songs where to finish, UPWARDS kept staring back at me, concise, solid as a rock, like the backbone of something that i had yet to realize, yet to see fully, but i was able to make cause i could always see the backbone. UPWARDS has held me. I wish I could live inside it, when I play it live I always want to make it last a very long time. It holds me, like sometimes only distorted, fast music can.
Onwards and Upwards, always.
